The Real Source

Does "" have to be something that so many disagree about?

Many try to make "" be simply generic. Get peace from whatever one feels is the appropriate place to get peace. God, Allah, Buddha, crystals, energy vortices in the Sonoran desert, the ghost of John Lennon ... whatever.

At the crux of it is whether any of those sources can really provide the peace. I assert -- but can't prove -- that there is only one source, and that God who has revealed himself in Scripture and most profoundly in the person of Jesus of Nazareth.

I may be wrong. Again, I can't prove anything.

But the point is that if my assertion is correct, then all the other "sources" are of no value. Any sense of peace one gets is self-manufactured and not really from God. Some may think they've tapped into the source of true peace, but it's only an illusion. They're still the fallen, sinful, broken-souled people they always were. And from them comes strife.

That's the fundamentally unique message of true Christianity -- we are broken people and can't accomplish anything good on our own. But God in his mercy has granted pardon through Christ, and commands us to take upon ourselves the privilege of becoming life-long students of his Son. From that will flow supernatural peace and love and assurance.

If everyone really did that -- and I don't -- then this world would be a transformed place.
