The latest New Scientist podcast suggests that people are more likely to make higher donations to The Church Plate if they feel they have "sinned" during the week.
Interestingly they make a link between physical cleanliness and needing to donate.
If you've sinned but washed your hands/body in water before going to Church you're more likely to make a lower contribution than if you had not washed.
Perhaps cleanliness really is next to Godliness ? :-)
Question: do you know if Churches are official charities when it comes to these donations? Not sure how a "charity" is defined, something to do with tax purposes perhaps?
