I know the devil tried it on with Jesus but does The Bible say he associates with normal humans? Or is this a popularist hollywood view of Satan?
Good question ... I'll have to study that. The two most obvious cases of satanic temptation offered in the Bible are: in the Garden with Eve; and in the wilderness with Jesus. In both cases the attack came at the root of God's truthfullness.
I'll agree that people who rely too heavily upon blaming "the devil" for this and that are probably engaging in false or dangerous things. C.S. Lewis once wrote that we humans make two mistakes relative to the devil -- believing he does not really exists; or taking an excessive interest in him. According to Lewis -- just Lewis' opinion -- the devil is perfectly happy for us to make either of those mistakes. Lewis wrote "The Screwtape Letters," after all. He's an authority. :-)
From what I understand, the picture of the devil as a red demon with a forked tail came out of the middle ages, when the church engaged in a campaign to mock Satan, believing that the best way to insult him and enrage him. This mocking portrait endured, but resulted in many people scoffing at the notion of Satan because the picture in their minds was too comical.
