Goodness! How time flies, huh? To her it's been a whole lifetime; for us, a mere blink.
At any rate, wish her a happy birthday for me. 9 is a wonderful age. It's old enough where the pure childishness of, say, 4 or 5 starts to give way to an awakening maturity. But it's young enough where the pressures of adolescence and the expectations of adulthood don't weigh on the child.
I recall being 9. I recall thinking 10 is the perfect age to be -- a double-digit number without a care in the world.
